PARIS — A Denmark man accused of locking family members in their Fryeburg home last month has been indicted on kidnapping and other charges.

Randy Earl Sheltra Jr., 32, of Scanty Bag Cove Road, is charged with two counts each of kidnapping, domestic assault and domestic terrorizing, as well as one count of assault. He remained at the Androscoggin County Jail on Friday on $10,000 cash or $50,000 surety bail.

According to an affidavit by Officer Brian Hughes of the Fryeburg Police Department, the incident was reported on the morning of June 24. Sheltra’s wife told police that he had come to her Smith Street apartment the night before and assaulted her over the course of about six hours. She was taken to Bridgton Hospital with severe head and neck pain.

Sheltra’s wife said he locked her and their daughter in the apartment and threatened to kill them if they tried to leave. She said she tried to leave through the window at one point but was pulled back into the residence.

Sheltra is also charged with assaulting the girl, who was under the age of 6.

According to the report, Sheltra was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He was arrested when police found him asleep inside the apartment.
