RAYMOND — Camp Agawam will hold its 13th annual Golf Marathon for Maine Camperships on Aug. 13 at Fairlawn Golf and Country Club in Poland. Over the past 12 years, golfers have raised more than $545,000 for 80-plus Maine boys to attend the camp’s seven-week session on the shores of Crescent Lake.

Last year, 21 golfers and 25 volunteers raised $53,000 by golfing a minimum of 100 holes in one day (the only one of its kind in Maine), and the goal this year is $55,000. “The boys who join us each summer on Maine camperships are fine campers and role models in our camp community,” said Garth Nelson, director of development and council operations for Agawam Council, the nonprofit that owns the 90-year-old camp. “They often go on to key leadership roles on the counselor staff.”

Boys who have attended camp on Maine camperships come from all over the state, including Androscoggin, Cumberland, Oxford, York, Lincoln and Sagadahoc Counties. For more information or questions about sponsoring a member of the staff/counselor team, please call Cathy Griffiths, Chair, Development Committee, Agawam Council at 207-345-9835, or contact her by e-mail at categriffiths@msn.com.
