RUMFORD — The third week of Summer Fest at the Rumford Public Library began Monday, July 20. Members of the Rumford Fire Department will be on hand Wednesday, July 22. to show youngsters the clothing and equipment firefighters need when they have to fight fires. They will also give the children an opportunity to try on firefighter gear, as well as answer questions about fire safety.

Thursday, July 23, will be “Fun Day,” when many volunteers work together to create a fun-filled time for the youngsters. Children will be able to take part in games, get their faces painted or watch as a balloon animal being created for them. Special treats will be popcorn and cotton candy.

Friday’s Picnic in the Park will be the annual Teddy Bear Picnic presented by Sue Bousquet and Stacey Holman at noon on July 24. Weather permitting, all will gather under the trees on the back lawn of the library. If rainy, they will move inside. Those attending should bring lunch, picnic blanket and a favorite bear.

This is the final week of the summer reading program, which will conclude on Saturday, July 25. Readers are asked to turn in their fourth-week reading logs by 5 p.m. Monday, July 27, so that certificates can be prepared for the reading celebration that will be held on Wednesday, July 29. Readers are asked to wear their “Get Creative @ Your Library” T-shirts to the celebration, which will include refreshments.

All programs are free and open to all area children and their friends. Parents and other caregivers are welcome to attend, and are encouraged to accompany younger children. The programs are held in the library’s public room at 3 p.m., with the exception of the Friday noontime picnic in the park.
