Emily’s Run scheduled for Sunday

AUBURN — Nearly 400 runners have registered for Emily’s Run, the second round of the Greater L-A Triple Crown 5K Series. Organizers expect this year’s field to surpass the previous high of 411 set in 2008. The 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk held in memory of Emily Fletcher will take place Sunday, July 26, at 9 a.m. at Edward Little High School. Registrations are ongoing, available online and on race day. Entry fee is $15 through July 23 and $18 thereafter. A free kids’ fun run sponsored by the Auburn Firefighters Local 797 will take place at 8:15 a.m.Fletcher attended ELHS where she was a standout runner in cross country and track. She also excelled in the classroom, which led her to double major in nutrition and dietetics at the University of Vermont. She lost her life at age 21 in a car accident in December of 2004. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fletcher Foundation, which provides $1,000 scholarships to deserving senior student athletes from ELHS.

Ice Dawgs seek players

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Ice Dawgs, who play in the Southern Maine Middle School Tier 1 League,  are seeking hockey players for the upcoming season. Any male or female student living in Lewiston or Sabattus and entering sixth, seventh or eighth grade is eligible. Players must preregister online with USA Hockey and bring a copy of the registration receipt to the tryout in late August. There is a $20 non-refundable fee due at the tryout. Norway/Paris soccer

PARIS — The towns of Norway and Paris are having signups for the 2009 Boosters Soccer Program. The session will be held from 6-7 p.m. at the Gouin Field snack shack. Registration forms are available at both town offices and on the town of Norway’s Web site. Deadline for soccer signups is Aug. 10. Checks may be made out to Oxford Hills Boosters Club.
