DIXFIELD — A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen has been set for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Town Office to decide whether a negotiating committee will be appointed to work with the Mexico Sewer District Board of Trustees.

Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky said if the board decides to establish the committee, it is likely that two selectmen will be chosen who can meet with the sewer board at virtually any time.

Dixfield selectmen and members of the Mexico sewer board have been meeting periodically to try to work out a plan to continue sewer disposal services for Dixfield residents. A 30-year contract has expired.

The Maine Department of Transportation plans to begin replacement of the Webb River Bridge later this year. Dixfield’s sewer line is attached to the bridge. The MDOT has asked Dixfield to work out an agreement by early August.
