The scoop: During the permit and liquor license discussion, Mixers’ neighbors complained about noise and vibration from the club’s bass speakers. The police chief said a tight budget means he can no longer keep his officers close to Mixers on Friday and Saturday nights. Owner Michael Yohe offered to pay for an officer if necessary. He told the board he is installing a soundproof floor and back wall. He asked that the town adopt a noise ordinance so he can receive some guidance regarding acceptable noise levels.

Next up: Chairman Mark Duquette told residents to contact the town manager with any complaints about the club. Selectmen asked Yohe to return on Aug. 18 so the board can address any new problems with noise.

Officers hired

Issue: Selectmen approved the hiring of police officers Nathan McNally and Thomas Turnell.

The scoop: McNally and Turnell will serve as reserve officers, working part time on an as-needed basis. They will cover for officer Melanie Skidgel, who will be serving in the military overseas for up to two years.

Next up: Skidgel will leave the police department on July 29.
