AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine’s senior senator said she’s “encouraged” by President Obama’s comments on health care reform during his prime-time news conference.
Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe said the president once again reaffirmed a shared commitment to achieve comprehensive health care reform this year.
In a statement Wednesday night, Snowe said that with more than 70 million Americans lacking adequate coverage, Congress must act to ensure universal access to high-quality, affordable health care. Snowe says she was also encouraged to hear the President say a health care overhaul must neither add to the deficit nor burden hardworking American families.
Snowe says she’s committed to working for a bipartisan compromise on the issue.
