LIVERMORE FALLS — A Livermore Falls teen was charged with assault late Friday after police say he punched a 15-year-old boy in the face.

Zachary Givens, 18, was issued a summons on the charge, Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.

The younger boy, also of Livermore Falls, and another juvenile who were going to Cumberland Farms on Main Street at about 11 p.m. were confronted by Givens and a friend who was with him, near Murray Hall, Steward said.

It started out as a verbal altercation and escalated to a physical one, he said.

Both sides tell different stories, Steward said, but there was also a slushy thrown in the face of one person in Givens’ party. One side said the slushy was thrown because of the punch in the face and the other side said the punch was thrown because of the slushy in the face, he said.

The teenager who was hit with the punch had a bloody nose and possibly a chipped tooth, he said.
