Laurence ‘Timer'” Bailey
1928 – 2009

BETHEL — Laurence “Timer” J. Bailey, 80, died Friday, July 24, at his home on Walker’s Mill Road, with his family at his side.

He was born in North Haverhill, N.H., on Nov. 15, 1928, the son of Lawrence and Katie May (Hatch) Bailey. He moved to Bethel at a young age, where he became a lifelong resident.

Timer was employed at several local mills in the area. He later became self-employed, operating a business known as Bailey’s Outdoor Power Equipment.

He served as a 4-H leader for several years during the 1950s and 1960s. His happiest times were spent at home working in his shop. He was married to Florence “Honey” Young on June 18, 1950 at Locke Mills.

He is survived by his wife and sons, Christopher and his wife, Brenda, of Andover, Mark and his wife, Susan, of Massachusetts, Leslie “Joe” and his wife, Monique, and Jack and his wife, Wendy, both of Bethel; one daughter, Janice Champagne and her husband, Michael, of New York; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
