It’s been a week and I’m still waiting for the Lewiston city officials to give a better reason for firing City Administrator Jim Bennett than “we need to move in a different direction.”
What does that mean? If Bennett was not moving in the right direction, why did it take eight years to determine that?
Jim Bennett was the best administrator Lewiston has ever had. Council members come and go, but good managers are hard to find.
Bennett left City Hall with dignity and his integrity intact. That’s more than I can say for some of the esteemed councilors. If firing Bennett was due to personality conflicts and infighting, then it’s time people take a good look at how the city is run.
The city budget is always tight, but the financial burden of buying out Bennett’s contract and expending money to search for a new manager didn’t seem to faze the council. I have a real problem with that.
