Virginia W. Norris
1925 – 2009

SKOWHEGAN — Virginia W. Norris, 83, of New Sharon, died Saturday, July 25, at Redington-Fairview Hospital.

She was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Everett Hugh and Clarice (Hines) Woodbury. The family moved to Maine when she was young and she attended Livermore Falls and Wayne elementary schools, the Haines Corner one-room schoolhouse in East Livermore and then the elementary school in Livermore Falls. During World War II, from 1941 to 1945. She was a student at Livermore Falls High school and graduated in the spring of 1945. While in high school, she was employed as a printer’s devil at the Livermore Falls Advertiser and worked evenings at Monk’s Variety.

On Nov. 10, 1946, she married Heman R. Norris Jr., in a candlelight ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Livermore Falls. He died in 1992. She retired from civil service after 28 years of employment for the supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair in Bath, where she worked as a contract/price analyst for the U.S. Navy.

She was a lifetime member of the Smith-Tobey American Legion Auxiliary of Bath, was a member of the OES of New Sharon and was an active member of the United Methodist Church of New Sharon, where she enjoyed serving her faith community as a bookkeeper, pie maker and member of the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Norris and his wife, Pam, of New Haven, Conn., Russell Norris of New Sharon and Mark Norris and his wife, Ida Richards-Norris, of Farmington; seven grandchildren, Scott Norris and his wife, Lourdes, Chris Norris and his wife, Kelly, Annie Montminy and her husband, Kevin, Joel Norris and his wife, Raechal, Gail Norris, Heman R. Norris III and Thomas R. Anderson; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Norris, Sarahbeth Norris, Matthew Norris, Brooke Norris, Courtney Joel Norris, Evalyn Norris and Kevin Montminy,III; and several nieces and nephews.
