PARIS — On Saturday, Aug. 1, Celebration Barn Theater will present Amanda Huotari in “The Soiree,” an unconventional dramatic comedy featuring Elizabeth, a charming and witty hostess who is pretentious yet contagiously optimistic.
Written by Huotari, “The Soiree” is directed by Avner Eisenberg of Broadway’s “Avner the Eccentric.” The show debuted in 2007 with the support of a Good Idea Grant from the Maine Arts Commission. It has been presented at the Cassandra Project in Portland and the New York Clown Theater Festival in Brooklyn.
Huotari, is an actor, teaching-artist and executive director of Celebration Barn Theater. She studied physical theater at the Lecoq School of Theater in Paris, France, and is a graduate of the International School of Comic Acting is Reggio Emilia, Italy. She has a bachelor of fine arts degree in acting from Emerson College. Since 2002, she has worked with Add Verb Productions, performing in the one-woman show “The Thin Line.” Her solo work has been featured at the New York Juggling Festival, New York Downtown Clown Revue and the Phyzgig Festival. She also teaches workshops in schools throughout the state as an artist-in-residence with the Maine Alliance of Arts Education.
“The Soiree” will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students. Reservations are encouraged and may be made by calling 743-8452.
