AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – A new service that gives doctors quick access to information they need to treat their patients is about to go live.
On Friday, hospitals and doctors will announce that HealthInfoNet is up and running. They say it will make Maine the largest state in the nation to begin operating a statewide electronic health information exchange. Only two other states have similar statewide exchanges using clinical data.
Health information technology like that envisioned in HealthInfoNet is a major part of the nation’s emerging health reform strategy. The new service will connect the rapidly growing number of providers using electronic medical records.
