FARMINGTON — The former treasurer of the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club was among 36 people indicted Thursday by a Franklin County grand jury.

Gail Gavigan, 62, of Dallas Plantation was indicted on a felony charge of theft in connection with more than $54,000 unaccounted for in the club’s books over the past three years. Gavigan was charged in October 2008 with stealing more than $10,000 from the club.

An audit of the club’s books was done after members realized checks were being written to accounts that had nothing to do with the club. The auditor put the total amount the club could not account for at $54,259.50.

Club President Steve Dudley told police the club found discrepancies in the financial records in April 2008 and Gavigan was asked to step down as treasurer/secretary of the club then.

In other cases, a Somerset County couple were indicted on felony charges of aggravated criminal trespass after being arrested in March for entering and removing a 4-year-old boy from a relative’s home.

Jennifer Woodbury, 27, of Madison, the mother of the child, and Joseph Magee, 31, of Skowhegan entered a Farmington apartment during the night, fought with the father and left with the child who was later found and returned home.
