BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have transferred right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka (DICE-kay Mah-tsoo-ZAH-kah) to the 60-day disabled list, meaning the Japanese phenom won’t be eligible to pitch again until Aug. 18.

Also Friday, the team made room for players acquired at the trading deadline by purchasing the contracts of right-hander Marcus McBeth from Triple-A Pawtucket and outfielder Josh Reddick from Double-A Portland.

Infielder Travis Denker was designated for assignment.

The Red Sox acquired catcher-first baseman Victor Martinez from the Cleveland Indians for right-hander Justin Masterson and minor-leaguers Nick Hagadone (HAG-uh-doan) and Bryan Price.

Boston also sent Adam LaRoche to Atlanta for Casey Kotchman in a trade of first basemen.
