LEWISTON — An Almighty Waste truck that blew a tire and crashed through a guardrail at mile 79 southbound on the Maine Turnpike caused traffic delays for about four hours Friday.

Scott Ferland, owner of Almighty Waste of Auburn, said the driver was unharmed and the truck bed was empty. He estimated the damages to the truck would total about $5,000.

Bruce Pelletier, spokesman for the Maine Turnpike Authority, said traffic was backed up between ¾ of a mile to one mile after the mid-morning carsh..

“We were able to keep one lane open but it slowed things down a little bit,” he said, estimating cars traveling through were probably delayed about 10 minutes.
