Charles W. Steele Jr.

1932 – 2009

BRUNSWICK — Charles William Steele, Jr., of Brunswick died at home on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Son of Charles and Mabelle Steele, Bill was born in Fort Fairfield on Jan. 2, 1932. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949, from Bates College in 1953, and from Tri-State University, Angola, Ind., in 1960. For 33 years, he worked in research and development at General Motors in Sandusky, Ohio.

He married Joan Martin Steele in 1971.

Bill was a member of Maine Street Baptist Church, Brunswick, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, and the Gideons.

Surviving are his wife, Joan; a sister, Linda Lux of Park City, Utah; a brother, Richard Steele of Cumberland Foreside; five sons and their wives, Charles III of Bristol, Conn., Mark and Terri of Meriden, Conn., Scott and Sandy of Burlington, Conn., John of Bristol, Conn., Andrew Wescott and Beth of North Andover, Mass.; nine grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Mary Apgar.
