James R. Stewart

1919 – 2009

AUBURN — James R. Stewart, 90, of Ferry Road, Lisbon, died Saturday, Aug. 1, with his loving family at his side.

Born in Lewiston on March 27, 1919, he was the son of the late James H. and Blanche (Ray) Stewart. He was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1937.

Jim was the assistant manager of Eastern States Farmers Exchange for several years, after which he worked as a tractor and machinery salesman.

He married his beloved wife, Wilma (Hill) Stewart, of Sabattus, on June 6, 1943. They lived in Sabattus for a number of years. They then bought their family home, a dairy farm, in Lisbon, where they have lived for 57 years.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Wilma,  of  Lisbon; three sons, Lindon Stewart and his wife, Cheryl, of Wales, Martin Stewart and his wife, Marie, of Lisbon, and Paul Stewart of Greene; nine grandchildren, Randy Stewart, Richie Stewart, Bob Stewart, Russell Stewart, Jessica Stewart Richard, Ryan Stewart, Scott Stewart, Sarah Stewart Morin and Christina Stewart; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Nelson; and a great-grandson, Tommy Stewart.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Austin, the nurses and all the staff at The Hospice House for their compassion and generosity. They would also like to thank the staff at Androscoggin Home Health & Hospice for all the care and kindness given to Jim and his family at his home.
