LEWISTON — Proactive Physical Therapy, 1190 Lisbon St., announces the expansion of its sports medicine and orthopedic physical therapy services with the addition of a second therapist.

Heidi Dening joined the practice in February 2009 and has established herself in the community as a skilled clinician providing a high level of service with a strong commitment to functional outcomes and patient education.

Dening received her bachelor of science degree in physical therapy from Quinnipiac College in 2000. She completed her clinical training at EMMC in Bangor, Tampa General in Florida, VA Hospital in Washington, D.C., and the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. She then practiced for two years in New Mexico before moving back to Maine in 2002. She worked for Maine General Medical Center in Augusta and Waterville until recently moving to the Lewiston area with her husband and two children.

She is a certified Mulligan practitioner, allowing her to provide specific mobilization techniques. She is also a certified Kinesio taping practitioner. Kinesiotaping involves purposeful application of a specialized tape to assist muscle contraction, facilitate circulation, improve muscle performance, prevent overuse and decrease musculoskeletal pain. As a certified lymphedema therapist, she is able to provide complete decongestive therapy, including manual lymphatic drainage in the treatment of lymphedema and chronic edema.

Dening is currently pursuing additional training in the mechanical evaluation and treatment of spinal disorders through the McKenzie method. For more information, contact Proactive Physical Therapy at 376-3000.
