Summer fair

PARIS — The Western Maine Veterans’ Home, 477 High St., South Paris, will have a summer craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. Thirty-two crafters will have items on display. A food table will hold homemade items for sale. The lunch bar will be open for lunches.

 
Society sale

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society will hold a sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, rain or shine. Members are continuing the sale from July 25 and there will be new items as well as a $1 bag sale. For more information, call Betty Jones at 674-2507.

AARP picnic

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter, AARP, will hold its annual picnic at noon Monday, Aug. 10, at the Oxford County Extension Center, Olson Road, South Paris.

The picnic will be a bag lunch consisting of a sandwich, chips, a cookie and fruit for $5. People should bring their own drink. Sandwich choices are chicken salad, seafood salad, egg salad, ham salad or cream cheese and olive. There will be tables and chairs and it will be held rain or shine.

Reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on Friday, Aug. 7, with phone number and choice of sandwiches.

Tours of the gardens will take place after the meeting.

Seniors picnic

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Stony Brook Campground in Hanover for a picnic. Members should bring a salad or dessert to share.

Daughters meet

STONEHAM — The Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughter of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, met July 22 at the church vestry. The national convention, which will be held Aug. 6 to 10 in South Portland, was discussed.Daughter Florence Caston recently died at the age of 105.

Plans are being made for a group of daughters from the convention to visit Paris Hill on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Scholarships

PARIS — The Oxford County Education Association-Retired has awarded four $500 scholarships to area students for the 2009-2010 year. The recipients are Kyle J. Rines of Hartford, graduate of Buckfield Junior-Senior High School; Joshua J. Desrosier of Hebron, graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; Alyssa M. Stevens of Bethel, graduate of Telstar High School; and Michael Hanson of Rumford, graduate of Mountain Valley High School.
