LIMINGTON, Maine (AP) — The Maine Warden Service says a woman who died when she was swept down the Little Ossipee River wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

Warden Eric Blanchard tells WMWV-FM the victim was 51-year-old Shannon Phillips of Portland. He says she fell out of her 10-foot inflatable kayak on some rapids on Sunday.

Her friend tried to save her but was unable to. Blanchard says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
