BOSTON — The Boston Celtics will open the 2009-2010 regular season against LeBron James and the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Oct. 27, then return home the following night for their home opener against the Charlotte Bobcats.

The NBA schedule released Tuesday also has the Celtics playing on Christmas Day for the second year in a row, this time against the defending Eastern Conference champion Magic in Orlando.

Another date for Celtics fans to circle is Jan. 31, when the defending NBA champion L.A. Lakers visit the TD Garden. The two teams will also play Feb. 18 in Los Angeles.

 Bruins sign up Reading, Pa., as new ECHL club

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Bruins have signed up the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League as a minor-league affiliate.

The Bruins will be able to designate players in their development system to the Royals during the 2009-10 season.

The Royals are also the ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Bruins did not have an ECHL affiliate last season.
