WILTON — The Western Mountain ATV Club received a unanimous vote from the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday to use town property on Munson Road as a park and ride for trucks and ATV trailers for a year.

Representing the club, Stuart Allen of Wilton told the board the club needs to get away from parking at Rick’s Market and entering the railroad bed to ride from there. “It’s an accident waiting to happen,” he said.

He asked the board to allow club members to use the Munson Road property, saying approximately six vehicles would regularly be there — a few more during special rides. The club has requested permission from Webber Oil to cross its property across from the town lot to get to the railroad bed.

The board agreed to give the club a one year free lease of the property after Selectman Paul Gooch questioned whether the board should rethink whether to charge a fee in the future or perhaps the club could have a lease agreement whereby they pay taxes on the property.

“It’s a good use for that property,” Selectman Russell Black said.
