FARMINGTON — A busy street, a hot summer afternoon and fresh vegetables from an Industry farm provided an opportunity for college students Rebecca Schoen of Wilton and Ann Marie Door of Industry to set up a stand on Perham Street and sell their produce.

A first-year garden with good drainage on an Industry farm has fared better than most gardens this summer as the young women had pails of large zucchini, salad greens and flowers to offer.
They expect to have lots of tomatoes, chard and beets to sell soon and plan to participate in the local farmers market. They decided to try setting up a card table operation Wednesday. A few customers had noticed the table and stopped by, Schoen said.

Schoen is a student at Connecticut College and Dorr at Bard College in New York. Each has another summer job but growing the vegetables and selling them is something they are doing on the side.
