To encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle, local radio station WEZR has coordinated a group of 10 local businesses and agencies to celebrate and raise awareness of Lewiston-Auburn’s Riverwalk. As part of the effort, dozens of four-color T-shirts will be given out free to those interested in walking the Riverwalk, according to organizers.

The first gathering will be at Festival Plaza on Main Street in Auburn at noon Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Years in development, the Riverwalk is a special walking trail in the heart of
Lewiston-Auburn. In addition to providing an
opportunity for a healthy walk, the loop features beautiful views of the
Androscoggin River along with gardens, art and benches. An extension of the walk being constructed under Longley Bridge will connect the loop to West Pitch Park, overlooking Great Falls. That extension is scheduled to be completed by mid-November but is expected to be done sooner.

In addition to WEZR, the 10 organizations involved are Albin, Randall & Bennett; Auburn Parks and Recreation; Healthy Androscoggin; St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center; Five Star Tax Service; the Hilton Garden Inn-Auburn Riverwatch; Lewiston Parks and Recreation; Pineland Lumber; Skelton Taintor & Abbott; and The Falls Restaurant.
