MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players will hold auditions Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 24-25, for the musical “Alice – A Return to Wonderland.”

The play, written and directed by Duane Glover of Winthrop, is set in modern times with Alice as an adult. She and her teenage daughter, Samantha, find themselves questioning what they really want in life and finding the time to do it.

The story is a sequel to Lewis Carroll favorites “Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.” There are familiar Carroll characters as well as some new additions to Wonderland.

“We have roles for all ages and encourage families and newcomers to join in the fun. The goal is to create an opportunity for friends and family to come out and have a good time during Halloween,” said Glover.

The show will be performed Oct. 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Nov. 1 in Cumston Hall. Friday and Saturday shows start at 8 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2 p.m.

Music and musical direction is by longtime MCP member Michael T. French. Also contributing lyrics and story concepts are Emily Edmonson and Lucie Glover.

Roles vary with nonspeaking, speaking, dancing, singing solos and chorus parts.

Lead roles that involve singing are Alice, Samantha, Queen of Hearts, Red and White Queen, Prezident, Tweedles Dee and Dum, Peter/Paula/Penny Penguin, Owl and the Mad Hatter. Those auditioning to sing should bring sheet music. Other roles with some choral singing include White Rabbit, Pig Mom, Frog, Racoon, Country and City Mouse, Lizard, French Chef, Hedgehogs, Playing Cards and Soldiers.

Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. at Monmouth Academy on Academy Road.
