Donald M. Cote Sr.

1934 – 2009

LEWISTON — Donald M. Cote Sr., 75, of Sabattus, died unexpectedly, yet peacefully Monday, June 29.

He was born in Lewiston, Feb. 13, 1934, the son of Armand and Rose (Gagne) Cote.

He married Irene R. Valley in Lewiston, May 31, 1952, raising four children.

Seeking employment, they moved to Connecticut, where he worked in many industries including a decade at O/Z Gedney Foundries. In addition to holding a Class A commercial drivers license, he became an emergency medical technician with the Plymouth Ambulance Corp.

Returning to Maine, he worked at Cote Crane and Rigging. He then graduated from the police academy working as a Sabattus Police Officer and later becoming an Androscoggin Deputy Sheriff.

He most recently worked at Union Camp (IP) in Auburn retiring after 13 years of employment.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Gabriel Ferland of Lewiston; daughter, Diane Ploszaj and husband, Walter, of Terryville, Conn.; sons, Donald of Bristol, Conn., and David of Sabattus; sisters, Betty Clukey and husband, Richard, of Mechanic Falls, Connie Crump and husband, Marvin, of Monmouth and Evelynn Deblois and husband, Edgar, of Greene; and brothers, Armand and wife, Madeliene, of Lisbon and Francis and wife, Lori, of Minot.

He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine; brother, Felix; wife Irene; and son, Brian.
