PARIS — Several people entered initial pleas to criminal charges Thursday at their arraignments before Justice William Brodrick in in the Oxford County Superior Court.

Randy E. Sheltra Jr., 32, of Scanty Bag Cove Road in Denmark pleaded not guilty to two counts of kidnapping, two counts of domestic assault, two counts of domestic terrorizing and one count of assault.

Sheltra is accused of locking his wife and daughter in their Fryeburg apartment in June and threatening to kill them if they tried to leave. Sheltra’s wife said she was assaulted for about six hours. Sheltra is also charged with assault against the girl, who was under the age of 6.

Matthew Winslow Allen, 26, of Cottage Street in Norway pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated assault. Allen is accused of assaulting Randall Brewer, then 50, at his home on Sodom Road in Buckfield last month.

According to a report by Trooper Jason Wing of the Maine State Police, Brewer was injured in the face and ribs. He told police that Allen took a bag of tobacco from him, and he was assaulted after the two got into an argument.

Allen told police that Brewer threatened him with a shotgun during the incident. He said he may have hit Brewer with the gun during a struggle to take the weapon away.

Peter Wayne Cole, 38, of Andover pleaded not guilty to burglary, two counts of theft, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.

Cole is charged with stealing a 1993 Subaru Legacy station wagon from Mexico and stealing power tools, knives and two rifles from a cabin in Andover. According to a police report, the stolen items were found in the car in Andover, and Cole was arrested after he was seen running into the woods.

Tammy L. Chapman, 20, of Main Street in Brownfield pleaded not guilty to burglary, three counts of theft, aggravated criminal mischief, stealing drugs, unauthorized use of property and two counts of violation of conditions of release.

Chapman is accused of stealing eight guns from a safe at a Brownfield residence, as well as prescription drugs, $310 in cash and a $10 check. Police also found a pickup truck nearby that had been stolen from a Limerick residence and damaged on its sides and tailgate.
