I support the efforts in Congress to increase access to health care, and will accept whatever imperfect program comes out of it as long as it ensures that the people who currently have no or very poor health insurance will be able to get some kind of decent minimum coverage. These are my friends and neighbors, and they deserve at least basic health care insurance.
The status quo hurts Maine small business and skews the labor market toward large employers. Not everyone wants change. Powerful interests are working overtime to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt (called FUD).
One thing is becoming clear to me: Those who support the health care effort had better speak up. So, in the name of my friends and neighbors, I urge Maine’s congressional delegation to press ahead, do their best and bring home a health plan. Then I will thank them.
