100 years ago, 1909

50 years ago, 1959

Two Androscoggon County deputy sheriffs turned cowboys Saturday night to get some cows out of a corn patch in the West Minot area.

On the way to another investigation, the deputies, Lionel Potvin and Henry Bernier Jr., were stopped by a farmer who complained of the cows in his corn patch. It was learned the cows were owned by John Wallingford of Perkins Ridge, Auburn. The deputies, with other volunteer aid, got the cows out of the corn patch and headed back toward their home pasture.

25 years ago, 1984

Lewiston police said two adults and two juveniles were picked up Wednesday night after a confrontation at the parking lot of 722 Main St., the former J.R.’s.Police were called to the scene at 10:55 p.m. by state liquor inspectors who reported that two groups of people were apparently about to get into a fight.

By the time police arrived, the crowd had turned on the inspectors and began to pelt their car with bottles and rocks. Police cruisers arriving at the scene were also struck by the thrown objects. There was no estimate of damage to the three vehicles dented in the incident.
