LEWISTON — The Maine Music Society will hold auditions for the coming season for the Androscoggin Chorale at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 26-27, at Bates College’s Olin Arts Center.

The season begins with a chamber orchestra concert titled “Music for the String Orchestra” when works by Handel, Vaughan Williams and J.S. Bach will be performed. Artistic Director John Corrie will conduct from the harpsichord for the 7:30 p.m. concert Saturday, Sept.26, at the Franco-American Heritage Center.

The first concert by the Androscoggin Chorale will be a “Heritage Christmas Concert” performed in collaboration with the Norumbega Brass Quintet and featuring carols both old and new. The three performances will be at 7:30 p.m, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11-12, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, with performances at the Oxford Hills Technical High School, the Franco-American Heritage Center and the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham, respectively.

The second concert by the chorale will be “A Night at the Opera.” Soprano Suzanne Nance, of Maine Public Radio, and baritone Leon Griesbach, musician at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, will join the chorale in an array of selections of solos, duets and choruses from operas. The first evening performance will be at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 27, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, followed by a performance at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 28, at the Orion Performing Arts Center.

To conclude the joyous “Music for All Seasons,” the Androscoggin Chorale will celebrate “Music From the Movies” by performing works written for the movies by many stage and screen composers. The two performances will be at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at the Forum in the Oxford Hills Technical High School and at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 23, at the Franco-American Heritage Center.
