JAY — Jay Village Water District trustees will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposal to seek a $290,000 low-interest federal loan for system upgrades and increase water rates by 10 percent. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at the district’s office at 1 Mountain View Road, off Old Jay Hill Road, in North Jay.

The district wants to install a new pump station and hydrants at the top of Jay Hill to improve water flow and public safety protection.

Water rates have not been increased since 2002. The current quarterly water rates, according to Maine Public Utility Commission online data, are $56.64 for 1,200 cubic feet, $79.92 per 2,000 cubic feet, $138.12 for 4,000 cubic feet, and $962.52 per 50,000 cubic feet, and $2,672.52 per 150,000 cubic feet.
