WILTON — The East Wilton Union Church will host its annual August “Concerts on the Lawn” series starting Sunday, Aug. 2. The public is invited The “Concerts on the Lawn” begin at 6 p.m. Sundays at the church, 1306 Main St., East Wilton.

Chairs are provided, but people are welcome to bring chairs. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held inside. Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow each concert. The concerts are free, but there will be an opportunity for a freewill offering. 

The concert schedule is as follows: 

 Aug. 2: The Rev. Garrett Johnston and family of East Longmeadow, Mass.

 Aug. 9: Greater Purpose, a local gospel group.

 Aug. 16: New Beginnings, a local gospel duo.

 Aug. 23: Journey Home, a family gospel singing group from Wilton.

 Aug. 30: Sammie Angel of Dixfield.

The Rev. Garrett Johnston and his wife, DeAnna, who will appear on Aug. 2, are originally from Maine. They have been serving at First Baptist Church of East Longmeadow, Mass., for more than 20 years. Johnston has been singing since he was a teenager and has a style that has been compared to that of Steve Green.

In his work with teens he has given many concerts at churches and Christian colleges. He is often joined by his wife and one of their daughters, Haley.
