FARMINGTON — East Wilton artist Colleen Park will be the SugarWood Gallery Artist of the month for August. An open house reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.

Park said her earliest memory of creating “a work of art” was when she was age 4. “It was a drawing of a boat, and my canvas was a new wall in a house that my father was building. Though those first efforts were not appreciated, little did I know that the day would come when people would commission me to paint room-sized murals on their walls of everything from flowers to gardens to rain forests,” she said.

Park calls herself a self-taught artist who did not start painting until she was almost 50. “I enjoy painting landscapes and still lifes in oils, and painting flowers from my gardens in watercolor … I believe my ability to paint is a gift from God, and I consider it a privilege to be able to illustrate His amazing creations.”

Her work will be on display and available to purchase during August.

SugarWood Gallery is located at 248 Broadway. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
