LEWISTON —
Lewiston Adult Education is offering dozens of courses in a variety of arts and crafts this fall – from beading to woodworking, painting to flower arranging, and basket weaving to quilting.

Art classes are available in numerous disciplines, including drawing, painting, pottery and stained glass. Classes available include “Beginning Drawing,” “Oil Painting,” “Painting with Acrylics,” “Watercolor: Intermediate/Advanced,” “Pottery I” and “Stained Glass.” The art classes will begin during the second and third weeks of September, and will meet one evening each week. Visit www.lewistonadulted.org or call 795-4141 for individual class schedules.

Four single-session workshops on different beading techniques will be available, including “Bead Stringing Basics,” “Beading to Benefit,” “Beading with Memory Wire” and “Jump-Ring Jewelry.” The workshops are offered throughout September, October and November.

Beth Derenberger will return to instruct sewing, quilting and rug braiding classes. Derenberger will teach “Absolute Beginner Quilt,” “Quilting Repeating Crosses,” and two levels of “Rug Braiding.” She will also teach participants how to make a “Strippy Scrap Jacket” using fat quarters in a shorter three-session class, and teach a single-session class on how to use old sweaters to create “Recycled Sweater and Fleece Mittens.” Sewing, quilting and rug braiding classes will begin throughout September and early October. Most of the classes meet once a week in the evenings.

Area knitters are invited to once again join Jane Footer-Cole in a “Knitting: Intermediate/Advanced” class to get expert assistance with current projects or begin a new advanced project with some guidance. The course will meet from 6 to 8 p.m., for six weeks beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Courses in numerous other types of hand crafts will also be offered. Floral enthusiasts are invited to join Nancy Steele of Ivy Cottage to work with dried seasonal flowers to create a decorative autumn swag on Monday, Sept. 28, or a dried harvest arrangement on Monday, Oct. 26. On Monday, Nov. 30, Steele will instruct a workshop on creating a fresh holiday greenery centerpiece. Each class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m.

Martha Chessie will return to teach two separate workshops on basket weaving. This fall Chessie will teach an oval Williamsburg basket on Saturday, Oct. 17 and a flat-backed wall basket on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

For those interested in trying their hand at woodworking, a beginner’s class will be offered. In “Woodworking: Basic I,” participants will learn the basics of woodworking machine operation as they handcraft a small, colonial wall shelf to take home. The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m., for eight weeks beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1.

All the above art and craft classes will meet at Lewiston High School. Visit www.lewistonadulted.org or call 795-4141 to learn more.
