The Asteroidz, an ASA 16u “A” girls
softball team, based out of Jay (with girls from Bethel, Sabattus, and
Farmington) attended the 16u Eastern National Tournament in Salisbury, MD. The
tourney was held July 28 through August 2nd, 2009.  As the only team
representing Maine, and the Maine State Champs, the girls played well,
finishing with a 3-3 record and defeating the New York State Champs in one
game.  The Asteroidz finished 29th overall, out of 64 teams from all over
the region, including MD, PA, NJ, NY, OH, MA, NH, and VA, to name a
few. Opening ceremonies were held July 28 and
the girls were able to join all the other teams for pin trading, karaoke, and
“moon bounce” fun.  Pool play to determine seeding for the tourney, was
held on July 29th and the actual tourney began on July 30th.  In between
games, the girls were able to enjoy hunting for Maryland crabs on the Choptank
River, visiting local malls, and walking the boardwalk at Ocean
City. The Asteroidz would love to thank all
those who helped with fundraising including local businesses in Jay, Sabattus,
and Bethel.  This tournament is one they will not soon forget. Team personnel, left to right:
