PARIS — A 44-year-old Bethel man was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison for two sex charges.

Mark Farnum of 915 Route 232 pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual contact and no contest to another count of the same charge in Oxford County Superior Court. The plea agreement dismissed two other counts of unlawful sexual contact against Farnum as well as two counts of assault.

Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne said Farnum touched the genitals of a 14-year-old girl on two occasions in 2007.

In a written statement, the girl said Farnum took away her innocence and privacy.
“He deserves a prison,” she said. “I hope he rots in hell.”

Justice William Brodrick sentenced Farnum to serve 18 months of a six-and-a-half year prison sentence, as well as three years of probation. He must also have no contact with the girl or her legal guardian, register as a lifetime sex offender, undergo sex-offender counseling, and submit to a search of any computers he owns.
