ORONO — University of Maine football player Jared Turcotte of Lewiston received more preseason All-American honors Friday, this time from the College Sporting News.

Turcotte, a sophomore fullback, received first-team honors, while junior offensive lineman Matt Barber was named to the third team.

It marks the third preseason All-America honor for Turcotte, who was also named first-team preseason All-American by The Sports Network in July and second-team preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services in June. He was also named to the 2009 preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association team.

Turcotte is coming off a stellar rookie season in which he led Maine with 625 rushing yards and seven touchdowns and receptions with 25. He was twice named CAA Rookie of the Week and earned first-team All-CAA status as a redshirt freshman while picking up All-America honors from College Sporting News and The Sports Nework. He earned those accolades in part by running behind Barber, a 6-foot-6 303-pound guard, who will be a second-year starter.

Maine opens its season Sept. 3 when it hosts St. Cloud State at Alfond Stadium.
