Lake association has new Web site

OXFORD – Thompson Lake Environmental Association has announced that its new Web site is up and running. Director Barry Jorve of Casco said, “Just go to www.thompsonlake.org.”

Three months in the making, the Web site is a state-of-the-art product, the result of a coordinated effort by many individuals. Chief among them was Jorve, who instigated the project and signed on professional Web designer Mariel Geiger of Norway, www.netmatrixdesign.com, to get it up and running. Many of the other TLEA directors were also involved, including Jean Hankins of Otisfield, who wrote and edited the text, and Kathy Cain of Auburn, Sue Ellis of Oxford, Tom Ray of Poland and Bob Tracy of Otisfield, who supplied photos.

The site is filled with information and pictures that explain the history of the organization, founded in 1971, and the details of several programs, including courtesy boat inspections, education, lake monitoring, milfoil removal, water quality testing, watershed surveys and the Youth Conservation Corps. It also provides a link to all the old issues of TLEA’s quarterly publication, “The Observer,” which has been published since 2004. The site has an “In the News” feature on the home page, which will be updated frequently.

“If you need to contact someone at TLEA and don’t know how to do it,” said director and Webmaster Chris Pottle, “just go to Contact Us on the Web site and find out.” Not only are all the TLEA committees listed, but the site has a photo of all committee members.

One feature is a video newsletter produced by Co-President Kathy Cain of Auburn. People from around Thompson Lake are encouraged to send in their photos so they can be added to the gallery section. Once a month,TLEA’s mystery judges will select one picture to be Photo of the Month. According to Jorve, “The winner will be displayed prominently on the home page, which means great bragging rights.”
