RUMFORD — Bangor Savings Bank branches in Rumford and Dixfield combined recently to donate to the Parish of the Holy Savior Church Food Pantry of Rumford. The food pantry opened its doors to the Rumford area some 10 or more years ago through founder, Dot Sanchez. It is now run by Miss Nancy (no last name given) and feeds more than 100+ people a month.

“We strive to send an abundance of food home with families that come in for assistance. Sometimes we just need to tide them over to the next pay day,” said Miss Nancy. The food pantry is accessible by all residents of Rumford.

Each of the local towns has its own food pantry and all donations are welcome, whether money or nonperishable food items.

For more information regarding the local food pantries contact Miss Nancy at 357-3559.

In light of the economic situation this year, Bangor Savings Bank chose to not celebrate its successes by holding a pizza night celebration in May for its 600-plus employees as is customary. The bank decided to take the money that would have been spent and allocate it to the local food banks in each of its eight regions.
