WOODSTOCK — The Oxford County Democrats will welcome Democratic candidates who have announced for governor in the 2010 election, as well as several in the exploratory phase, at their summer barbecue and family fun day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Leadership Center on Lake Christopher

County Democratic Chairwoman Cathy Newell announced that the Oxford County Democrats expect former Maine Attorney General and House Speaker Steve Rowe, Rosa Scarcelli of Portland, Rep. Dawn Hill of Cape Neddick, Senate President Libby Mitchell and Commissioner of Economic and Community Development John Richardson to attend.

Maine Democratic Party Chairwoman Marianne Stevens and House Majority Whip Seth Berry are among the party leaders who are planning to attend.

“We are looking forward to conversation with our guests and to honoring our own legislative and county office holders,” Newell said. “Our annual barbecue is a great time for Democrats to enjoy a traditional summer event and a wonderful kickoff to the many activities leading up to the 2010 election year.”

The center will be open to attendees, including swimming, canoes and kayaks and hiking trails. Those planning to swim. boat or hike may arrive anytime after 11 a.m.

The program will begin with a meet and greet social time at 1, followed by a cookout lunch at 2 served in the dining hall. There will be an introduction of guests and recognition of office-holders following the meal.

Tickets are $20 a person, including the meal and donation to the Oxford County Democrats. Tickets for children under 10 are $5. To reserve tickets, call 875-2116 or e-mail cathyn@megalink.net.
