OXFORD — Pam Lovely has been named Volunteer of the Year for the town of Oxford.

Lovely began coaching T-ball 22 years ago and has coached at least two sports, sometimes three, for the past 18 years. She has coached T-ball, softball for Farm League, Little League, senior girls, field hockey and basketball.

She has been treasurer for the Oxford Elementary PTA, in the Oxford Baseball/Softball Association, active in March of Dimes, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Relay For Life. Lovely has served as a ballot clerk and has been treasurer for the Oxford Elementary DARE program since its inception in 1992.

She has been an active member of Oxford Recreation Committee and chairwoman for the last five years. Under her leadership, and with the help of volunteers, the town has seen the development of the Station House Recreation Center, with activities for all ages, and the ice skating rink. And she has maintaining the current programs of baseball and softball.

Until the center was developed, Lovely stored equipment and uniforms at her house. Plans are being made for more activities at the center and the building of a horseshoe pit.

All this has been accomplished while Lovely has held a full-time job and raised two children. She has been there for family, friends and her community.
