FORT KENT — University of Maine at Fort Kent student, Monica Wilson, published an article, “The Gift that Comes with Giving,” in the current edition of the Catholic Diocese of Portland magazine, “Harvest.”

The article describes the UMFK’s Newman Club members’ pilgrimage to Steubenville, Ohio, during spring break. Wilson also writes of the spiritual impact and experiences they went through. While the group was in Ohio, they volunteered their time for the less fortunate.

She said the following UMFK students were involved in the pilgrimage
to Ohio: Paul Roy of St. David, Alisha Gould of Oxford,
Lisa Parent of Fort Kent and David Planchet of Concord, N.H. UMFK’s assistant campus minister, Luc Roy, also made the trip.

Wilson is a sophomore majoring in elementary education and president of the UMFK’s Newman Club.

“The idea of writing the article came from Josh Houde, Catholic campus coordinator at UMFK,” said Wilson. Houde also accompanied the students during the travel.

Wilson is taking part in the Rite of Christina Initiation of Adults at St. John Vianney in Fort Kent.

“Harvest” is a bi-monthly magazine of the Catholic Diocese of Portland. The article is in the July/August magazine section, Young Adult Ministry. The article is viewable online at www.portlanddioceses.
