RUMFORD — The River Valley Healthy Community Coalition has announced the awardees of its 2009 Work Healthy Program, which recognizes businesses and organizations in northern Oxford County that place a high priority on promoting good health for their employees.

By supporting a tobacco-free lifestyle, encouraging physical activity and/or promoting healthy eating, businesses and organizations may realize the benefits of a healthier workforce, reduced absenteeism, disability costs and health care costs, improving productivity and increased moral and loyalty. Participating businesses earn the Work Healthy Award, which recognizes them as community leaders by promoting good health for their employees.

The bronze award is for those employers who meet the merit level in each of the three categories of Tobacco, Healthy Eating and Physical Activity. Silver is for those meet the quality level in all three categories. The gold award is for those who meet excellence in all three categories. This year’s winners are as follows:

Silver Awards: Sun Journal, Maine DOT, Region 3 and Rumford Hospital.

Bronze Awards: Hannaford, Hope Association, Oxford Federal Credit Union, Bangor Savings Bank, Franklin Savings Bank, Region 9, School of Applied Technology.
