LEEDS – The AK Girls’ Softball League recently completed its 20th anniversary season with a tournament at the Stinchfield complex. Teams from Leeds, Greene, Turner and Wayne participated in the event. An all-star game also was played at Tripp Middle School in Turner.

AK President Cynthia Veilleux and umpire-in-chief Dave Ingerson presided over the double-elimination tournament, while Leeds hosts Melissa Devoult and Bruce Robertson and Turner host Jennifer Simmons worked hard to prepare the fields. The league congratulates and thankss players and their parents for participating in this healthy family activity.

Turner Blue Jays took the regular-season title, followed by Leeds Lightning, Greene Wildcats, Wayne All-Stars, Turner Patriots and Greene Gators. 

Leeds topped the double-elimination tourney, with Turner Blue Jays taking runner-up honors and Greene Wildcats third.

The all-star game was a mixed event with three players from each team in the league participating. The West team prevaile.

Ribbons and trophies were presented for the AK season, tournament and all-star events at a ceremony. Veilleux, the league’s retiring president, was presented with a signed softball base as a gift. Lorien Mathieu and Jennifer Simmons will take over as interim co-presidents.
