CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts will host Cape Cod Irish duo Stanley and Grimm with special guest Boston-based pianist Janine Randall Sunday, Sept. 13, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center.

The concert, starting at 7 p.m., is the first of three Sunday concerts to be held at Skye in September. A pre-show jam will start at 6:15 p.m.; bring your instruments and join in.

Stanley & Grimm, made up of noted fiddler Nicole Engstrom and singer/guitarist Sean Brennan, is a celebration of traditional music through old and new interpretations of jigs, reels and songs played with lively fiddle, guitar and voice.

Engstrom has delighted audiences for more than two decades with her spirited jigs, reels and sensitive slow airs. Brennan is a songwriter and guitarist, hailing from Nashville, Tenn., whose warm vocals and rhythmic guitar capture the essence of old ballads and his own compositions.

Their sincere combination of talent and good humor culminated in their debut CD, “Stanley & Grimm,” a collection of some of their favorites and some of their most-requested songs.

The name Stanley & Grimm originated with Engstrom’s fiddle, an original F.O. Stanley of Stanley Steamer fame. Grimm is the maker of her bow and, thus, the name Stanley & Grimm. Engstrom has played an F.O. Stanley all her life and has, in recent years, acquired two other rare Stanleys. It is believed 25 to 30 of the rare violins were made.

Randall is a first-generation American descended from the Camerons, MacNeils and Walkers of Mabou and Margaree Harbours along the western side of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Coming from a well-known musical family, she naturally gravitated toward music and culture; and, in 1995, she founded and became director of the Ceilidh Trail School of Celtic Music in Inverness, Cape Breton Island.

An accomplished academic speaker, writer, piano teacher and promoter of Cape Breton culture, Randall is a regular accompanist at Cape Breton dances and concerts throughout New England, Canada, the United States and Scotland.
Concert tickets are $10 at the door. Call 562-4445. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2.
