GOP to meet

WOODSTOCK — The Oxford County Republican Committee will meet Tuesday, Sept. 8, when special guest speaker will be Peter Mills, 2010 gubernatorial candidate, at Franklin Grange, Main Street. A social hour will be held at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30. Cost is $7.50.

Senior College meeting

BETHEL — Western Mountains Senior College will hold its annual meeting
from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Gehring House, 77 Broad St.
Membership and course registrations will be taken. There will be a
brief business meeting, refreshments and program. New members are

State visitation

RUMFORD — The Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 will host State President Mike Powers and his wife, Freddy Powers, on Saturday, Sept. 12, at a steak barbecue and lobster meal. There will also be baked potato, corn on the cob and dessert. Steak is $15 and the lobster is $18. There will also be entertainment by Sammie Angel.

Cancer walk

RUMFORD — The Maine Children’s Cancer Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Hosmer Field Complex.

Abby Blauvelt is the ambassador this year. All money raised stays in Maine for treatments, education and research.

Seniors to meet

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, for a potluck dinner at the Bethel Methodist Church, Main Street. Members will bring a dish to share.

Bridge play

RUMFORD — Rumford Bridge Club results for Aug. 31 were: tied for first and second, Ozzie Swett and Sue Farnum and Bob Soucy and Alan Bradford. Results for Aug. 24 were: first, Jessie Shea and Anna Cormier; second, Judy Roy and Ann McClousky.

The club will not meet Monday, Sept. 7, due to Labor Day. The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Senior Center. All duplicate bridge players are welcome.
