Coach: Jim Aylward (21st year)

Last year’s record: 12-0, Class B state champions

Returning letter winners: Seniors — Ryan Laubauskas (G/DT), Cole Clark (C/T/ILB), Nick Taylor (G/LB), Brady Fergola (FB/DE), Matt Duka (TB/OLB); Juniors — Cam Kaubris (QB/DB), Christian Durland (DE/TE).

Key losses: Justin Staires (HB/QB/DB/KR), Matt Laubauskas (FB/LB), Travis Ruff (TE/LB), Kenny Grant (T/DT), John Gorham (HB).

Promising newcomers: Seniors — Steve Jeselskis (DT), Chris Day (DB); Junior — Tyler Mason (HB); Sophomore — Ryan Glover (G/T/DT/LB), Izaak Mills (OLB).

Outlook: How do you lose one of the best backfield tandems in Class B history and still rate as a prime contender to defend your state title and claim your fourth Gold Ball this decade? Well, when you’re Mountain Valley, it’s standard procedure to think big. The explosive Mason and tough-as-nails Duka will try to fill Staires and Laubauskas’ cleats. Kaubris is one of the state’s top QBs. But what will make the Falcons soar is a championship-caliber defense featuring Duka, Durland, Kaubris, Clark and Ryan Laubauskas. Cape Elizabeth and York will test the Falcons, but MV likely will be playing on Saturday afternoons in November, as usual.

Coach’s comment:
