PORTLAND — An Auburn man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of transporting a minor in interstate commerce with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

The indictment charges James Raymond, 28, of Auburn, on two occasions in 2007 transported a minor from Maine to New Hampshire and from New Hampshire to Maine with the intent the minor engage in sexual activity made illegal under both Maine and New Hampshire law, according to a release issued by U.S. Attorney Paula D. Silsby.

A release issued by Silsby’s office states, “the charges containted in the indictment are only allegations, and that Raymond is entitlted to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Silsby’s release also “praised the investigation conducted by the U.S. Imigration and Customs Enforcement and the Auburn Police Department.”
