FARMINGTON – Kaitlin Bullen netted a pair of second-half goals as Mt. Blue edged Morse 2-1 in KVAC field hockey action Tuesday.

Jenny Kobinchen contributed for the Cougars (1-0) with an assist on each goal.

Amanda Hall made eight saves in net to preserve the win, while Alexandra Rodriguez turned aside eight shots for Morse (0-1).

Edward Little 3, Lewiston 1

AUBURN – Edward Little erupted for three goals in a span of about two minutes Tuesday to post a 3-1 field hockey victory over Lewiston on Friday.

Lewiston (0-2) took an early lead at 2:10 on a goal by Suva Nagi. That advantage held up until 20:58, when Jess Campbell scored of a feed from Katie Williamson to tie the contest at 1-1.

A minute later, Williamson scored the game winner with an unassisted tally. Williamson then added an insurance goal a minute after that.

The Red Eddies (1-1) outshot Lewiston 23-2. Kayla Cummings made one save in EL’s net, while Lewiston’s Emily Craig stopped 18 shots.

Winthrop 2, Mountain Valley 1 (OT)

RUMFORD – Kelsey Ouellete dribbled through a maze of players and scored a goal two minutes into overtime to lift Winthrop to a 2-1 victory over Mountain Valley.

Sarah Warner put the Ramblers (2-0) on the board first with 6:45 left in the first half. Emily Knapp tied the contest at 1-1 for the Falcons (1-1) with 16:18 remaining in regulation.

Katie Michaelsen made four saves in net for Winthrop to notch the win, while Emily Gallant turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Mountain Valley. 

Jay 4, Georges Valley 0

JAY – Kelsea Beisaw helped break the game when she scored with three seconds remaining before halftime, and Anne Harvell added two second-half goals to send Jay to a 4-0 triumph over Georges Valley.

Harvell set up Shayna Meserve for the game’s first goal at 16:34 of the first half for the Tigers (1-1). Jay then changed the tenor of the game when Beisaw scored an unassisted goal with three ticks remaining before the half.

Brittany DiPompo added an assist on one of Harvell’s second-half goals.

Ashlee Quirrion made six saves for the Tigers, while Cierra Smalley had 19 saves for Georges Valley (0-2).

Telstar 8, Lisbon 0

BETHEL – T.J. Cowin scored a pair of goals and four assists as Telstar handed Lisbon their second loss on the season, 8-0, in MVC field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.

Amanda Wiley put the Rebels (1-0) on top 2-0 at the midpoint. Telstar spread out the scoring across five players in the second half. Lindsay James, Jamie Steven, Kayla Merrill and Katie Sumner each contributed a goal in the winning effort.

Goalie Brianna Moore was busy in net for the Greyhounds (0-2), making 21 saves, while Sam Tibbetts turned back five to earn her first win in net for Telstar.

Leavitt 4, Erskine 0

SOUTH CHINA – Jen Vallee scored the first goal of the game on a relay from Emily Murphy and eventual game-winner as Leavitt cruised to a 4-0 shutout victory over Erskine Academy in KVAC field hockey action Tuesday.

The Hornets (2-0) took a 3-0 lead into intermission. Casey Fichter found the back of the net at 12:06, while McKayla McCann chipped in with Leavitt’s third goal at 9:27 of the first half.

Goalie Tabatha Plourde repelled six shots for the Eagles (0-2), while Taylor Eells earned the win in goal for Leavitt. Eells had four saves in the winning effort.

Soccer

Mt. Blue 3, Skowhegan 1

FARMINGTON – After falling behind 1-0 at the half, Mt. Blue roared back with three unanswered goals to pull away to a 3-1 girls’ soccer victory over Skowhegan.

The Cougars (1-1) trailed despite controlling the bulk of play in the first half. Adrienne Davis scored an unassisted goal for the Indians (0-2).

Kelly Yardley finally put the Cougars on the scoreboard when she scored off a Chelsea Thompson feed at the 33:49 mark of the second half. The game remained tied for the next 10 minutes until Rachel Karno scored the game-winner when the ball bounced back to the top of the circle and she lofted the ball over the goalie’s head.

Marlie Mochamer sealed the game with an insurance goal with 4:19 to play.  Emily Deane made one save in goal for Mt. Blue. Sam Gray stopped 18 shots for Skowhegan.

Morse 1, Edward Little 0

BATH – Anna Lozano scored the only goal of the game off a penalty kick to lift Morse to a 1-0 victory over Edward Little.

The Shipbuilders (2-0) and Red Eddies (1-1) were locked in a battle in a back-and-forth first half. Lozano secured the game’s lone goal at the 29:01 mark of the second half on a penalty kick.

Goalie Kate Thibodeau made four saves for Morse, while Kirsten Prue had a tremendous game in net for Edward Little. Prue had eight saves.

NYA 7, Gray-NG 2

YARMOUTH –  Courtney Dumont set the tone by scoring five goals as North Yarmouth Academy sailed to a 7-2 victory over Gray-New Gloucester.

Dumont scored three of the Panther’s (1-0) five first half goals. She was assisted by Katie Lentine on both of her second half tallies.
Taylor Darnell converted a feed from Bailey Nitz early in the second half for the Patriots (0-2), while Michaela Destins collected a tally for the last goal of the contest in the losing effort.

Goalie Taylor Damon made 11 saves for Gray-New Gloucester, while Caroline Bowne turned back three for North Yarmouth Academy to earn her first win of the season.
